Applause for this courageous Coloradan

From Associated Press---20 year-old law student proposes Human Life Amendment

Kudos for this student, Kristi Burton, for bringing this much-needed petition for referendum (which hopefully will get onto the ballot). I am opposed to abortion but I support state actions rather than federal ones, and I believe the federal Partial Birth ban was misled, though well-intentioned. Burton's petition, however, would change state constitution to protect unborn life. If Coloradans are willing to assert their rights and principles, the rest of this country shall follow their lead.

Supreme Court correctly ruled on the crack/powder sentencing case

Good news from the SCOTUS. The court ruled 7-2 (Alito and Thomas dissented) in Kimbrough v. U.S. and Gall v. U.S. that judges may issue sentences that are lower than the ones advised by Federal Sentencing Guidelines based on the unreasonableness of the guideline. It is a small step, but an important one, toward the end of coke/crack disparity. The disparity is surely outdated and whatsoever unjustifiable.

For more detailed coverage, Reason Magazine's Jacob Sullum did a decent job, here.
